The Science Behind Our Process

Why Our Treatments Actually Work

You've probably tried hosing down your turf after your dog uses it. Maybe you've sprayed something on it from a bottle. And yet — a few days later, especially when it's hot — the smell comes back. Here's why that keeps happening, and what we do differently.

The real problem is underground

Dog urine isn't just one thing. It's actually three compounds mixed together. Two of them rinse away easily with water. But the third one — uric acid — doesn't. When urine dries, uric acid forms tiny crystals that physically bond to the sand and rubber granules packed into the base of your turf. Water doesn't dissolve them. It just moves past them.

  • These crystals sit 1–3 inches below the surface, well below where a hose or spray bottle can reach

  • When temperatures rise, the crystals release ammonia gas — which is why a yard that seems fine in February can be overwhelming in July

  • Over time, bacteria settle into the crystalline deposits and multiply, turning a smell problem into a hygiene problem

This is why fragrance-based sprays fail. They sit on top of the turf blades and evaporate within days. The crystals underneath are untouched and ready to reactivate the moment it gets warm.

What we actually do

We use two approaches depending on what your turf needs:

  • Enzyme treatment: Concentrated biological cultures — naturally occurring, non-synthetic — produce specific enzymes that break apart the molecular structure of uric acid crystals. The crystals don't get masked. They get consumed and converted into water and carbon dioxide. There's nothing left to reactivate.

  • Oxidation treatment: A low-concentration hydrogen peroxide formula — the same chemistry used in wound care — destroys bacteria, viruses, and odor compounds on contact through oxidation. After it reacts, it breaks down into water and oxygen. No residue, no toxic byproduct.

We also don't just spray the surface and call it done. We combine pressurized application with a mechanical agitation pass that physically drives the chemistry down into the infill layer where the problem actually lives. Then we let it dwell for 10–15 minutes to complete the reaction. That's the part most people skip — and it's the part that determines whether results last weeks or days.

Is it safe for my kids and pets?

Yes, and here's specifically why:

  • The bacterial cultures in our enzyme treatments are non-pathogenic — meaning they're specifically selected because they cannot cause infection in humans or animals

  • Our formulas are USDA-authorized, biodegradable, and free of volatile organic compounds and synthetic fragrances

  • The hydrogen peroxide we use is food-grade concentration — lower than what's in a standard bottle from the pharmacy

  • No bleach, no ammonia, nothing that degrades your turf fibers or irritates skin and lungs

  • Your turf is ready for kids and pets again once it's dry — usually within 20–40 minutes on a warm Las Vegas day
